The Morukuru Goodwill Foundation is blessed to have so much beauty and tranquility surrounding her in the African bush, and also by the many wonderful communities with whom we interact on a daily basis. We believe in giving back to Africa – to the wildlife, in the form of preservation and conservation, and to the local communities, working with them to educate, mentor and empower.
In the spirit of Operation Phoenix – the original landmark wildlife re-introduction and monitoring project that took place in Madikwe from 1992 to 1999 – the owners of Morukuru continue to give generously of their time, staff and other resources towards Parks Board projects such as wildlife collaring, darting, monitoring and relocation initiatives. A well-known ecologist is a frequent visitor and advisor to Morukuru and input from respected experts like this, help ensure our facility and operations are ecologically and environmentally sound.
Similarly we look for creative ways to partner with our local communities in Madikwe, such as the Molatedi Village. This partnering is illustrated by many different initiatives, from the dancers who perform at Morukuru Family, to our book donation project; the eradication of the invasive Sickle Bush in our private concession, undertaken manually in order to provide local employment, to the planting of trees. If you would like to help, please purchase a tree to plant in our concession, or even at home.
In a dual environmental and community empowerment initiative, the community collects and sorts recycled refuse that they then resell to companies which deal commercially in recycled materials.
Your presence here makes these initiatives possible. Together, we work for the benefit of not only of the environment and community, but towards the preservation of one of Africa’s greatest wildlife sanctuaries.
