The 5th of October is International Teachers’ Day and we commemorate this important date on our annual calendar by underscoring our commitment to investing in the future by supporting teachers and their ongoing work of education.
The Morukuru Goodwill Foundation (MGWF) advocates for better education for the Madikwe community by supporting two schools in the immediate vicinity, namely Madikwe Academy and Molatedi Primary School. Here youngsters are able to learn in a safe and well resourced environment as well as being introduced to the concepts of ecotourism and conservation. Guests at Morukuru Family Madikwe can choose a cultural excursion by visiting these schools and this often kindles a desire to contribute by way of much appreciated donations. Guest contributions have boosted the library, sports equipment, IT facilities and general stationery needs.
Not to be left out Morukuru Ocean House and Morukuru Beach Lodge are also keenly involved with their own education initiative with the adoption of the Ouplaas EK Primary School which is situated just a few kilometers away from the entrance to the De Hoop Nature Reserve. This school has a history dating back 100 years but is under-resourced and faces ongoing funding challenges. Support means the critical work of teachers can continue as well as the critical work of the feeding scheme which provides daily meals for pupils. Guests have embraced this project by way of generous donations meaning ongoing improvements like the the gifting of computer equipment has been possible.
According to Mandela :“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” and we agree, especially when it comes to supporting teachers who contribute to creating ambassadors for Africa’s natural heritage.
