History
In the spirit of ‘Operation Phoenix’ – the original wildlife reintroduction and monitoring project in Madikwe Game Reserve from 1992 to 1999 – the owners of Morukuru Family launched the Morukuru Goodwill Foundation in 2007.
Alongside community support initiatives, the Foundation has contributed to conservation projects led by the Parks Board for nearly two decades, including wildlife collaring, monitoring, notching and relocation initiatives. These efforts support ongoing wildlife management and conservation within Madikwe Game Reserve.
Achievements & Projects
Our local partnership with Molatedi Village, just outside Madikwe Game Reserve, supports a range of community initiatives, including projects linked to the Molatedi school.
In De Hoop Nature Reserve, we have supported CapeNature since 2010, as well as the Turtle Conservation Centre at the Two Oceans Aquarium in Cape Town, the Landmark Foundation (monitoring the Cape Leopard population in De Hoop), Ouplaas Primary, Elim House and Nuwerus Nasorg. In Johannesburg, we support Village Safe Haven and Hearts of Hope.

Safaris with a Purpose
Our guests support Morukuru Goodwill Foundation by funding our conservation efforts as well as by supporting the local community. In 2018 we launched our ‘Safaris with a Purpose’ package in Madikwe Game Reserve. Witness and experience hands-on conservation work, visit the local school and learn more from a local researcher in the reserve by booking at least a 4 night stay at Morukuru Owner’s House, Morukuru River House or Morukuru Farm House. Highly recommended for families!

Coastal Conservation with a Purpose
Morukuru Goodwill Foundation also supports the Two Oceans Aquarium Turtle Conservation Centre in Cape Town. Similar to our ‘Safaris with a Purpose’ package in Madikwe Game Reserve, guests at Morukuru Family De Hoop can book the optional ‘Coastal Conservation with a Purpose’ package, provided they have booked minimum two nights at Morukuru Beach Lodge or at Morukuru Ocean House. The package will take guests behind the scenes, explaining about Turtle Conservation and more.
