Young guest scores for the Morukuru Goodwill Foundation

One of the objectives of the Morukuru Goodwill Foundation (MGWF) is the promotion of education for youngsters from within the Madikwe community. The Madikwe Academy and the Molatedi Primary School are centres of learning which receive ongoing support from MGWF, so that children can be taught in safe and productive environments. MGWF works together with these schools to develop initiatives so that resources and facilities can be maintained and improved.

For many guests, a visit to Molatedi is a highlight of their trip and this is where the challenges of uplifting surrounding communities is witnessed first hand. Following a trip to Morukuru Madikwe with his family and a visit to the school, one of our young guests returned home with his own dream of making a difference. This young boy is an avid rugby player and is a member Golborne Parkside Pirates. decided to embrace the MGWF principle of giving back and came up with a plan to collect unused rugby kit, which could be donated to Molatedi for ongoing sports development. The plan was set in motion with teammates and club members donating kit. Then another club got wind of this fantastic initiative and got on the bandwagon. Leigh Centurions donated unsold junior kit and then motivated local businesses to contribute additional items like rugby boots and balls.

Our young guest was lucky enough to be returning to Morukuru Family for the Christmas holidays and he managed to pack up and transport his massive haul. Molatedi was closed for the summer holidays so husband and wife team, Ilse and Evan Vermeulen (Ranger) made arrangements for all this kit to be taken to the school. On the first day back at school excitement reached fever pitch when the windfall was revealed and the kids were definitely more interested in getting out onto the fields than into the classrooms.

MGWF would like to thank all our guests who have supported conservation and education. We are committed to creating a better life for everyone connected to our Morukuru Family and the Madikwe Reserve.
