Conservation & community: Morukuru Goodwill Foundation’s impact

The Morukuru Goodwill Foundation, established in 2007 by Ed and Anka Zeeman, is a testament of the commitment to conservation and community upliftment at the heart of Morukuru Family. From the moment Morukuru Family was founded in 2005, the owners knew they wanted to give back to Africa, preserving its wildlife and supporting local communities. Operating primarily within Madikwe Game Reserve and De Hoop Nature Reserve, the Foundation has empowered and participated in everything from anti-poaching and wildlife relocation to educational and health initiatives in local communities. Our latest newsletter features extraordinary stories from the last few years. We invite you to dive deeper into the initiatives the Morukuru Goodwill Foundation spearheads in wildlife conservation and community upliftment. Read on for what's in store for this edition...

Bheni’s inspiring journey

Bheni, our superstar! He’s the green sea turtle that the Two Oceans Aquarium Foundation (TOAF), in partnership with the Morukuru Goodwill Foundation, released back into the ocean after his rescue and rehabilitation. Thanks to a satellite tracking tag we sponsored, Bheni has been tracked travelling a remarkable 14,500km – and counting – across the Indian Ocean. And our commitment to turtles is growing.

Rhino protection in Madikwe Game Reserve

Rhino poaching continues to threaten Africa’s rhinos. The Morukuru Goodwill Foundation supports various anti-poaching initiatives at Madikwe Game Reserve, including rhino notching and DNA tracking, in an effort to safeguard these incredible animals. Our efforts ensure that rhinos are monitored and protected, and that data is used to combat poaching and inform future conservation strategies.

Fynbos conservation at De Hoop Nature Reserve

The Foundation is fighting to protect wildlife and habitats. Fynbos, part of the extraordinarily diverse Cape Floral Kingdom, is threatened due to invasive species like Rooikrans. Our team works tirelessly to clear these plants, helping restore the delicate fynbos and ensuring that future generations can experience its beauty and ecological importance.

Meet Meadow

One of our most heartwarming stories is that of Meadow Timmermans, our first-ever Morukuru Goodwill Foundation Ambassador. Inspired by her visit to Madikwe, Meadow rallied friends back home in the Netherlands to collect school supplies for the children of Molatedi Village. Her passion and dedication are a powerful reminder that anyone can make a lasting impact – age is certainly just a number!
