We are in the heart of the unspoilt De Hoop Nature Reserve on the Garden Route and offer the best of "all worlds" when it comes to things to do. While we're privileged to be set in an area famous for whale-watching (yes those are all whales in this picture – zoom in), there's even more to experience here.

Activities for all ages Our diverse and exciting coastal adventures suit all ages, activity levels, and interests, and they are included in your stay. As most are weather- and tide-dependent, our guides curate a daily itinerary of the best possible experiences. Explore the rugged coastline on a guided marine walk, including the rock pools at low tide, teeming with colourful marine life. Alternatively, snorkel in the protected rock pools to see these fascinating creatures up close (snorkelling gear is provided).

Venture into the fynbos with our guides and choose your adventure: a gentle walk to take in the scenery and learn about the unique flora of the region (1 500 species!), a challenging hike or a mountain biking trail to explore on two wheels.

The reserve is also home to 86 mammal species and more than 260 species of birds, and our guided 4x4 nature drives take you across the diverse landscape, where you may spot wildlife such as bontebok and Cape Mountain zebra. We might surprise you with a bush picnic. We love dining outdoors!

For a real adventure that will have you all learning a new skill, laughing (a lot), and burning off the plentiful food, you can learn to sandboard down the white dunes.

Our guides will have you getting active with beach games like volleyball, cricket, and croquet. We also ensure some down time with picnics and sundowners overlooking the ocean.

Dolphins, whales, sharks, and seals are plentiful in the Indian Ocean, and during whale season (July to October), you can watch these giants of the sea migrate along the coast from the comfort of your accommodation. Making family memories At Morukuru Family De Hoop, we welcome children of all ages with specially designed activities just for them, like making and flying kites, baking, swimming in our pools and tailored kiddie adventures. They can share the magic of the reserve with you by joining various activities such as nature drives and exploring the rock pools. You may also opt for exciting additional activities not included in the rate, which you would need to pre-book with us, such as whale watching by helicopter, a birdwatching boat cruise on the De Hoop Vlei, or a visit to the Cape Vulture colony in the Potberg Mountains.
